I drove past an orchard last month and saw a leafless tree with red apples next to a leafless tree with yellow-green apples. It amazes me to see the apples without the leaves, still on the tree!

well, you almost got it right
"to" (it) is neutral, so you say, "to je lepo"
all the nouns in slovenian have genders (masculine, feminine or neutral) and adjectives are formed according to the gender of the noun, so "lep" is the masculine form; and the feminine form is "lepa"
