speculation
the following photo is not very nice, nor is it very artistic, but i find it fascinating. it shows four slugs gathered around what looks like the remains of another slug as if in mourning. and i've seen similar scenes before. now someone please tell me gastropods have no feelings...

Well done, Polona.
I might as well tell you Polona - it's not mourning - it's a banquet
thanks, aurora!
ashi - canibals?
makes sense, actually... why waste a source of proteins... ah well, nobody's perfect :)
ohhh...I liked the mourning interpretation better, but googled it and yes, they do eat each other. Sigh.
thank you, pris.
should have googled it myself before posting, but i'll leave everything as it is for the time being...
Great....not a funeral, man eats man as do animals eat animals...life is like that until we learn the other is part of us
Good one Polona!
Is "a distance" a typo Polona? Don't you mean "THE distance"? This is exquisite in any case.
I'm glad I finished eating! :)
Banquet or mourning still gives me the shivers!! Haven't had my ice cream yet!!
Powerful. I liked Plus Ultra's comment...

thank you
Looks like a convention of 'em. :-)
Powerful. A mourning and a feast.
Great circle of life.
"On earth there is no death.
All are immortal. All is immortal. No need to be afraid of death at seventeen nor yet at seventy. Reality and light exist, but neither death nor darkness."
Arseniy Tarkovsky "Life, Life"

yep, floots - the habit seems slightly more common than we'd like to admit... and not that i really believed what i'd initially written, but it seemed kind of appropriate...
